May I submit more than one photograph or story? Yes, multiple submissions are welcome. We ask that you identify your files as described on the Format Guidelines page under "File Names" to ensure that new submissions do not overwrite older material not meant to be replaced.
Will you notify me that my material has been received for consideration?
The online submission process provides an immediate acknowledgment of receipt. Submissions e-mailed or faxed will be acknowledged by email within 24 hours. Submissions mailed will only be acknowledged if a pre-paid, pre-addressed envelope is enclosed with the submission.
Will you notify me if you wish to publish my material?
Yes. If you are a "finalist" and your submission is under consideration for publication you will be notified and sent publishing agreements. Please see the details about the process on the Book Titles in Development page.
Will I receive a contract for publishing my work?
Yes you will. We will not publish work without a signed publishing agreement on file from finalists. Please see the details on the Book Titles in Development page. In addition, the signature of subjects mentioned in a story, or individuals appearing in a photograph, may be required as deemed necessary by our editors.
What rights am I giving up for my material to be published? We need only non-exclusive rights to your material. Our books are sold around the world in all languages. You retain the copyright and are able to re-sell and market this material elsewhere. Please see the Format Guidelines page for more information.
Will my story be edited? Yes, as our editors select finalists for publication they will often edit stories with an eye toward story arc, readability, balance with other content, and general publisher house-style issues. If needed, the editor will contact you for more information to develop certain areas of your story or clarify issues. An edited copy of your story will accompany the publishing agreement if your story is being considered as a finalist for publication.
Will my photograph be retouched?
Photos will be sized, cropped and adjusted for brightness or contrast as needed for the publisher's layout.
